Headlines/July 8, 1998 Departures Meryl Walterhouse retired in June after 15 years of service to the University College. Meryl’s first job was as an office assistant in CE. She worked for a year as Secretary to the Director of Agriculture, but she will best be remembered as the friendly voice at the Chilliwack switchboard where she also provided support to faculty. Best wishes Meryl. Normand Fortier of the Faculty of Science has left the collége for the “high-tech world”. In addition to teaching Physics courses, Normand had taken the lead role in - the engineering transfer program and had worked extensively to achieve educational approval for the Electronics and Computer Interface Technology program. Ted Dunlop of ECE is off to New Zealand in August. Ted has accepted the postion | of Vice-President and Dean at a Polytechnic there. Maple Melder-Crozier will be taking his place as program head. Peter Janzen, a retired custodian at .| UCFV, passed away May 2, 1998 after a short illness. Peter joined the staff at UCFV at the old Mission Centre in October, 1985. He later transferred to the Abbotsford campus where he retired last year. Known for his friendly smile and. kind and helpful manner, Peter will be rememberd fondly by many members of the staff, faculty and student body. Peter is survived by his wife, Betty, and two daughters. Bowcott ~ Ron Bowcott, retired director of Vocational Training (now Trades and | Technology), died May 28 after a lengthy illness. .Ron worked as the Director of Adult Education in Langley and was instrumental in getting the vocational programs up and running at UCFV. In his|" nine years with UCFV he worked in a» number of positions on both campuses. He retired in 1987. He is survived by his wife Eileen, their five children and 10 grandchildren,
