THE DAILY PROVINCE MAY 11, 1912 HINDU STUDENT EXCLUDED ------------------- Refused Admission by Immigration Officials at Victoria. ------------------- Victoria, May 11.—Ram Chand, a young Hindu student who is said to have resided in Vancouver and Victoria at different periods for about five years, reached here yesterday on the Sanuki Maru, but was refused permission to land and had to proceed to Seattle. When he left for the Orient last June he obtained a letter from L. M. Fortier, chief clerk of the immigration department at Ottawa, setting forth that he was entitled to return to Canada. Mr. Fortier signed the letter as the superintendent of immigration but nevertheless the officials here declined to recognize it.
